BUTUAN CITY – Efforts to provide aid to residents affected by the recent earthquake in Northern Cebu continue, with various regions of the country offering assistance. According to Atty. Arnel Awing, a resident of Cebu City, the earthquake caused significant damage not only to roads but also disrupted traffic, particularly in areas like Medellin and the epicenter in Bogo City.
As of now, roadways are congested due to numerous vehicles traveling to and from the affected areas, making it difficult to access these locations. Atty. Awing emphasized the importance of local government coordination with relief efforts to identify the most critically affected areas.
Essential supplies such as food and water remain in high demand in the affected areas, with many residents still struggling to meet basic needs. Video footage shows individuals and families gathered along roadsides holding up signs asking for assistance in the form of food and water.
Atty. Awing also shared alarming reports from Bogo City, where the damage is particularly severe. He described how entire buildings, including fast food establishments, were toppled by the quake. When traveling towards the town, Atty. Awing witnessed groups of people seeking help and shelter, many of them huddling in tents along the roadsides due to fears of potential aftershocks.
Relief operations are ongoing, and local authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.
