BUTUAN CITY – The suspect in the brutal murder of a 7-year-old girl in Barangay Basag, Butuan City, has undergone a drug test, with authorities waiting for the results.
According to PCAPT Dennis Bon, Officer In Charge of Police Station 4, the suspect, identified as Dondon Acedo, a 29-year-old security guard and resident of the same barangay, was confirmed to have been intoxicated with alcohol at the time of the crime.
Acedo initially helped search for the missing child earlier that morning, March 15. When evidence— a pair of clothes and pants—was found at the crime scene, he quickly disappeared, along with the clothes. It was later discovered that Acedo had tried to hide the clothes in his house.
This led the police to suspect that Acedo was responsible for the crime committed on the night of March 14.
During his interrogation, Acedo admitted to committing the crime. He also made it clear to the Barangay Captain that he was not under the influence of the illegal drugs the night he barged in the house of the victim to take her home.
The suspect also confessed that after he raped the child, he even tried to slay her by forcefully drown using a basin of water. But the child run away to the nearest banana plantation, there he punched the kid to death and throw her to a dried-up well.
The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings. Authorities have also prepared the necessary documents for charges to be filed against him, including rape with homicide.
The case has raised concerns in the community, and the police are ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to achieve justice.
