BUTUAN CITY – The bodies of 2 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, who were killed in an encounter yesterday, January 28, in the mountainous area of Sitio Dinakpan, Brgy. Los Angeles, Butuan City, were turned over to the Butuan City police by the 29th Infantry ‘Matatag’ Battalion, under the 901st Infantry (Fight ’em) Brigade, 4th Infantry Diamond Division, Philippine Army.

The clash involved an estimated nine members of Platoon 1, Sub-Regional Center De Grabedad Westland, under the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

In an exclusive interview with Bombo Radyo Butuan, Lt. Alegre, the officer-in-charge of Civil Military Operations (CMO) of the battalion, revealed that they received information from local residents regarding the group’s extortion activities.

Upon responding, the soldiers saw the rebels carrying high-powered firearms, leading to a firefight.

From the encounter site, two high-powered firearms and terrorist documents with high intelligence value were recovered.
