BUTUAN CITY – Authorities have taken two members of the Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Mobile Group (PPMG) into custody following an incident that resulted in the death of a civilian on Wednesday night along the highway in Purok 2, Barangay Victory.

According to Tubay Chief of Police Major Lizandro Leopardas, the individual involved was reportedly experiencing a mental health episode and was seen holding a bladed object, which led to concern among bystanders.

Initial reports suggest that the situation escalated after the individual allegedly took the weapon from a motorcycle driver. Residents in the area called for police assistance due to safety concerns.

Responding officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the individual reportedly did not comply with their instructions. The officers took further action after reportedly perceiving a threat, resulting in the fatal outcome.

The two officers involved are currently under investigation.

They have undergone standard procedure tests, including a paraffin test and a ballistic examination of their service firearms, as part of the ongoing inquiry by the Philippine National Police.

Authorities are continuing to gather information to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
