BUTUAN CITY – Butuan City begins the full implementation of the “No Jaywalking Policy” starting today, Monday, March 24, following a month-long information campaign and public awareness efforts aimed at preventing violations.
With the enforcement of the anti-jaywalking ordinance, the public is urged to comply with the regulations by using overpasses and designated pedestrian lanes to ensure safe road crossings.
Senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who may find it difficult to climb overpasses or cross pedestrian lanes are encouraged to approach assigned traffic aides for assistance. The strict enforcement of this policy aims to reduce road accidents and strengthen traffic discipline within the city.
The first day of implementation sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some already accustomed to the new rules, while others were surprised when traffic enforcers scolded them and warned them of fines for future violations.
Under the new ordinance, the fine for the first violation of the “No Jaywalking Policy” is P100.00, P500.00 for the second offense, and P1,000.00 for the third and subsequent violations, as stipulated in City Ordinance No. 7026-2023, also known as the Transportation and Traffic Management Code.
