BUTUAN CITY – The Search and Rescue Team of Agusan del Sur, continues its search and rescue operation today together with the local government of the municipality of Rosario, for the four miners who died after failing to exit when the tunnel they entered — which had long been condemned — exploded.
According to initial information from residents, the incident occurred yesterday in the mountainous area of Mahunok, under the jurisdiction of Brgy. Bayugan 3, in the said town.
Among the victims were two identified only by the surname Balagno, one named Bustamante, and another known by the alias Dior.
According to local miners in the area, whenever a mining tunnel collapses or explodes, a toxic odor immediately spreads, which could possibly have caused their deaths.
