BUTUAN CITY – A Fortuner vehicle carrying swimmer athletes from Surigao City was involved in an accident this afternoon at around 3:34 PM in Los Angeles, Butuan City.
According to the driver of the vehicle, Michael Putolin, they encountered an armored car which overtook a car on its front while they were on their way back to Surigao City from Patin-ay, Agusan del Sur for a regional athletic meet.
The driver stated that they were fortunate enough to avoid a direct collision, as the vehicle swerved to the side, only grazing the vehicle and preventing a head-on crash with the armored car.
As a result of the incident, two chaperones accompanying the athletes, aged 9 and 10, were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The young athletes had been traveling from Patin-ay, Agusan del Sur, to participate in the Caraga Regional Athletic Games.
As of the latest reports, no injuries were sustained by the young swimmers.
