BUTUAN CITY – A successful joint law enforcement operation on August 2, 2025, in Sitio Napanpanan, Brgy. Rajah Cabungsuan, Lingig, Surigao del Sur, led to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of illegal firearms, ammunition, and an explosive device. The operation, which took place at approximately 7:52 PM, targeted alias “Jeffrey Birador”, a 40-year-old male farmer and resident of the area. Birador is also a primary suspect in the ongoing “Boy Segovia” case.
The operation was carried out based on two search warrants, numbered 2025-06-L and 2025-07-L, which were issued by the Presiding Judge of Branch 46, 11th Judicial Region, Bislig City. The warrants were related to violations of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and Republic Act No. 9516 (Illegal Possession of Firearms, Ammunition, or Explosives).
During the operation, authorities confiscated a black .45 caliber Taurus pistol with a magazine containing six live rounds of ammunition, a brown holster, another .45 caliber pistol with a magazine of six live rounds, and a fragmentation grenade. Additionally, a sling bag was also recovered from the scene.
The operation was a result of collaboration between the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Intelligence Unit (SDSPPO PIU), the Lingig Municipal Police Station, the 14th Special Action Company of the PNP Special Action Force (14 SAC 1ST SAB PNP SAF), the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Surigao del Sur (CIDG SDS), and the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of SDSPPO (1st SDS PMFC). The operation was carried out under the direct supervision of PCOL Jeffrey Lawrence D. Mauricio, Provincial Director of SDSPPO.
The search was conducted in a lawful and orderly manner, with a Barangay Kagawad from Brgy. Rajah Cabungsuan and a media representative present as witnesses. After his arrest, alias “Jeffrey Birador” was informed of his constitutional rights. Both the suspect and the confiscated items were brought to the Lingig Municipal Police Station for further processing.
Further investigations are underway, and legal proceedings are expected to follow.
