BUTUAN CITY- Rising Filipina tennis star Alex Eala has advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Eastbourne Open after a commanding 6–1, 6–2 victory over World No. 42 Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

The 19-year-old Eala, currently ranked World No. 68, showcased her growing prowess on grass as she dominated the match from start to finish at Devonshire Park. The win marks another major milestone in Eala’s breakthrough season and her second consecutive semifinal appearance on the WTA tour.

Up next, Eala will face France’s Varvara Gracheva, who advanced after second seed Barbora Krejcikova withdrew from their quarterfinal due to a thigh injury.

The Eastbourne Open, a key lead-up tournament to Wimbledon, is heating up as players battle for form and momentum heading into the Grand Slam.

Men’s Singles Update:

  • Jenson Brooksby cruised past Dan Evans 6–2, 6–3 to reach the semifinals.
  • Ugo Humbert (4th seed) beat Billy Harris 7–6(7), 6–1 and will face Brooksby next.
  • Top seed Taylor Fritz is scheduled to play Marcos Giron later this evening.
  • Jakub Mensik and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina remain locked in a tight quarterfinal with one set apiece.
