BUTUAN CITY – The mother of Filipina Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič – who was tragically slain – is calling for justice following her daughter’s untimely death, which occurred just a week into her marriage with Slovenian husband Mitja Kocjančič.

Facturan, a marriage migrant, was reportedly killed by Kocjančič on December 29, 2024, during a vacation in Bled, Slovenia.

Vilma Pila, Marvil’s mother, expressed her desire for justice, sharing in an interview on January 14 that she had no indications of trouble in the marriage before her daughter’s death.

The couple met on social media in February 2024 and became engaged and married by July of the same year.

Facturan had traveled to Slovenia just a week before her death.

Pila said she was shocked when she received news of her daughter’s death on New Year’s Eve, stating that everything about her daughter appeared happy on social media.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has already confirmed that the couple had fought before Facturan was fatally stabbed.

Pila was further distressed upon learning that Kocjančič had been detained in a mental institution, rather than a prison.

The Slovenian embassy in Manila has pledged to cooperate with Filipino authorities in the investigation, promising that justice will be served for Facturan.
