BUTUAN CITY –Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known for her iconic role as Shancai in the beloved drama Meteor Garden, has reportedly passed away at the age of 48.

According to Taiwanese media, Hsu’s younger sister, Dee Hsu, confirmed the sad news on February 3, revealing that Barbie succumbed to pneumonia after contracting influenza during a family trip to Japan for the Lunar New Year.

In an emotional statement, Dee Hsu expressed her profound sorrow and love for her sister, sharing:

“I will always be thankful for her and miss her forever,” and added, “Shan~ Rest in peace! Love you always—Together, remember forever.”

Barbie Hsu was a beloved figure across Asia, particularly in the Philippines, where Meteor Garden garnered immense popularity in the early 2000s.

In addition to her acting career, Barbie was a talented musician, performing as part of the duo S.O.S, and she also received critical acclaim for her role in the 2012 film Croczilla, which earned her the Best Actress award at the Macau International Film Festival.

She leaves behind her husband, South Korean DJ and singer Koo Jun Yup, whom she married in 2022, along with two children from her previous marriage to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei. Barbie’s sudden passing comes after speculation fueled by her ex-husband’s social media post on February 2, where he changed his profile picture to black, sparking rumors about her health.

Her death has left fans and the entertainment community in shock and mourning as they remember the talented actress and singer who touched so many lives with her work.
