BUTUAN CITY – The lifeless bodies of four individuals trapped inside a cave system in Sitio Sikahoy, Barangay San Jose, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur were successfully recovered by personnel from the Bislig City Central Fire Station.
This after a search and retrieval operation led by personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO-Bislig) led by acting city fire marshal FSrInsp John Rey Mejores, who also served as the incident commander.

The operation began at around 7:12 PM and concluded at 10:30 PM on Monday after they carefully entered the tunnel, which was extremely muddy, had unstable terrain, and very narrow passageways.
Due to the dangerous conditions, the team brought self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBAs) to ensure safe breathing and maintain operational capability within a limited timeframe.
The recovered bodies have been turned over to CDRRMO-Bislig for proper disposition.
