BUTUAN CITY – A Filipino teacher in Thailand shared his experience as a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck yesterday afternoon.
According to Bombo International News Correspondent Aldrin Manlapaz, he was teaching on the second floor when the earthquake hit.
He described the situation as chaotic, with many people panicking. While the shaking was ongoing, another teacher rushed to evacuate the children from the building.
Manlapaz revealed that this was the first time an earthquake of such magnitude had been felt in central Bangkok, causing widespread panic. Many children were crying, and there was extreme fear among the students. Fortunately, everyone was able to safely exit the building.
However, a nearby under-construction high-rise collapsed, and reports indicate that some individuals were trapped inside. Rescue teams have since been working to free those trapped.
As of the latest reports, the death toll has not yet been confirmed, but the Philippine Embassy has issued a statement expressing readiness to assist if any Filipinos are affected by the disaster.
Currently, the state of emergency has been declared in the country.
