BUTUAN CITY – Following the arrest of a dentist accused of sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl, more victims have come forward to Bombo Radyo Butuan, reporting similar incidents of harassment during dental visits.
The case was first brought to light when the father of the young girl filed a complaint with the authorities and later shared it with Bombo Radyo Butuan that same day.
According to an alias named Jen, who also came forward to Bombo Radyo after hearing about the incident, she too was harassed by the same dentist when she was 14 years old.
Jen, who is still a minor, revealed that the dentist once touched the side of her breast and asked if she had lumps, informing her about the rise of breast cancer. She also disclosed that the accused offered her a scholarship, but in return, he wanted her to become a mother once she finished her studies.
Another victim emailed Bombo Butuan’s news staff, revealing that she too was a victim of the arrested individual. Although she was of legal age, she exposed that the dentist had a foul mouth whenever she visited his clinic. Alias Karen revealed that the dentist attempted to engage her in inappropriate conversations. As a result, she also felt confused about what would happen to her unfinished braces sessions with the accused, now that he is in jail.
The dentist, whose clinic is located in a mall in Barangay Tandang Sora, Butuan City, was apprehended yesterday following a thorough legal process.
According to the father, alias Oscar, his daughter had been undergoing dental treatments, including braces and a tooth expander, and had been visiting the dentist regularly for the past year. It was during these visits that the alleged harassment took place.
The girl initially believed the dentist’s actions were accidental but later came forward after a more recent encounter where she was reportedly groped. She confided in her older brother, who then informed their father.
Since the case was published by Bombo Radyo Butuan, several others have come forward, revealing they, too, were victims of the same dentist’s inappropriate behavior.
Oscar is calling for the dentist’s license to be revoked and for the clinic to be shut down in order to prevent further harm to potential victims.
The dentist is facing charges under Republic Act 7877, the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and explore whether there are other victims yet to be identified.
