Air India has released a statement confirming that all 241 individuals on board the aircraft have died.

The airline also reported that there is one “sole survivor” who is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.

An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport, killing at least 200 people. The flight, which was bound for London, went down in a residential area, striking a doctors’ hostel and causing widespread destruction.

Local police have confirmed the recovery of 204 bodies from the wreckage, though it’s unclear how many were on the plane and how many were on the ground. One passenger, a British national, survived the crash and described the terrifying moments after takeoff.

According to the flight manifest released by authorities, the passenger occupying the seat was identified as British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.

In a statement to Indian media from his hospital bed, Mr. Ramesh described the incident, saying, “Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise, followed by the plane crashing. It all happened so quickly.”

Ramesh, who is reportedly in stable condition, said the plane crashed “thirty seconds after takeoff” following a loud noise. He also shared a picture of his boarding pass with reporters, confirming his presence on the ill-fated flight.

The plane was carrying 242 passengers, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. At least 50 medical students, who were staying in the doctors’ hostel, were injured and are currently hospitalized in critical condition.

A full list of passengers has been released by multiple news outlets. Notably, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among those on board5. The breakdown of nationalities includes:

  • 53 British nationals
  • 7 Portuguese nationals
  • 1 Canadian national

OTHER CASUALTIES

Around 50 medical students were injured after an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into the building where they were staying.

Experts from the United States and the United Kingdom have arrived in India to assist in the investigation of the incident.

Air India has assured that it will provide support to the victims, with each one set to receive over PHP 6.5 million in assistance.

The crash occurred shortly after the aircraft took off and went down in a residential area near Ahmedabad Airport.
