BUTUAN CITY – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has formed a Task Force to conduct audits on the tax compliance of social media influencers. Atty. Ron Mikhail Uy, speaking at a Tri-Committee hearing in the House of Representatives, emphasized that the BIR will be monitoring influencers to ensure they are paying the correct taxes.

He also revealed that letters have already been sent to influencers, requesting them to cooperate with the ongoing audit.

However, Atty. Uy acknowledged the difficulties in tracking down these influencers due to the different names they use online. This challenge makes it harder for the BIR to accurately identify and follow up with individuals involved in social media influencing, but the agency is determined to enforce tax compliance in this growing sector.
