BUTUAN CITY – Youth leader Atty. Edracel del Rosario praised the participation of young Butuanons in a protest yesterday, noting that even though residents of the city are not accustomed to demonstrations, they proved their anger toward corruption in government.

According to Del Rosario, it is encouraging that the city’s youth are now taking an interest in governance. “When they eventually become leaders, they will already know what is right and wrong,” he said. He added that outrage over corruption cuts across social classes, saying both the rich and the poor feel the same frustration toward officials accused of abuse.

Del Rosario acknowledged that political loyalties still cause some division among Filipinos, but he believes a time will come when citizens will unite behind a single call: to end corruption in government, regardless of which politicians are involved.

He also appealed to public officials under investigation for graft to step down, if necessary, to ensure impartial inquiries. “It’s the people who voted for you who are asking for this,” Del Rosario stressed.
