BUTUAN CITY — Civil society group Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance KON TAMA NA has announced their plans for a large-scale protest dubbed the “Baha sa Luneta Protest” on September 21.
According to Professor David Michael San Juan, the group has seven specific demands:
- Hold accountable and prosecute all individuals involved in the controversial flood control projects under the Duterte and Marcos administrations.
- Confiscate all ill-gotten assets from these individuals and redirect the funds toward education and healthcare.
- Abolish all forms of pork barrel or confidential funds.
- Make public all Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) of government officials.
- Require all politicians to sign bank secrecy waivers and release the full list of contractors and suppliers, permanently banning those involved from government contracts.
- Dissolve the “Small Group” in Congress.
- Dismantle political dynasties, which the group claims have turned public office into a business.
Currently, around 700 leaders have committed to joining the rally, not including the various sectoral groups expected to participate. Professor San Juan noted that they no longer need to seek performers for the event due to the large number of volunteers.
The rally is expected to draw attention not only in the capital but also across various cities in the Philippines. September 21 was chosen as the date because it marks the day when the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. signed the declaration of martial law.
