BUTUAN CITY – Following his arrest for alleged crimes against humanity, former President Rodrigo Duterte was urged by former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV to reflect and “purify his soul.”

Trillanes, a vocal critic of Duterte, welcomed the development, calling it the first step toward achieving justice for the thousands of victims of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs. In an interview, Trillanes described the arrest as a long-awaited moment for justice, emphasizing that Duterte should now take time to reflect on his actions before everything concludes.

Trillanes also commended the Philippine National Police (PNP) for redeeming their reputation, noting that the police had been tainted by their involvement in the war on drugs but had regained their credibility through this event.

Duterte was apprehended after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant, and he is currently in custody at Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
