BUTUAN CITY- Seven members of Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) from various units of the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) surrendered to government forces in the past days, bringing with them two low-powered firearms. The individuals, including rebels and militia members, surrendered to the 36th Infantry Battalion (36IB), 65th Infantry Battalion (65IB), and 30th Infantry Battalion (30IB), all under the operational control of the 901st Infantry Brigade.
Among those who surrendered were Chrytal Malaya Sagbigsal, also known as Islaw, a rebel instructor; Jerry Orvoc Manliguis, aka Jigjig, a member of the Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad (SRSDG) Westland; and Gilbert QuiƱonez Azarcon, aka Jose, and Vangelyn Alimbuyong, aka Maria, members of the Militia ng Bayan (MB), who turned themselves in to the 36IB under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Viray in Barangay Puyat, Carmen, Surigao del Sur. Additionally, Marjun Tumambad Gubay, aka Jego, and Firmin Villatura Iligan, aka Agila, members of the SRSDG Southland, also surrendered to the 65IB under Lieutenant Colonel Ray Anthony Sisican in Barangay Calaitan, Bayugan, Agusan del Sur, bringing with them an M1 Carbine, magazines, ammunition, two grenades, and a revolver with live rounds. Furthermore, Rodel Enano Hidi, aka Kawren, a member of the Regional Sentro de Grabidad (RSDG), surrendered to the 30IB under Lieutenant Colonel Albert Batingga in Barangay Mahanub, Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte.
These surrenders occurred following the death of Myrna Sularte, aka Maria Malaya, the regional secretary of NEMRC, in Pianing on February 12, 2025.
